if death comes in threes, music comes in fourteens

I went to a funeral home last night. A church acquaintance from my former life--what seems like five hundred years ago--committed suicide Friday morning. She was 28 years old.

And then College K's Grandfather passed away Saturday night. College K said that she thinks that death comes in three, with these two current deaths and my Dad's--two months ago this week. I don't know if College K is right or not, but either way I wanted something to cheer us up, so I decided to make a list, and then it turned into a playlist. I like making lists--no I love making lists. And I love that movie High Fidelity with John Cusak. And I love that he makes "Top __ Lists.

So, here as I sit at the end of my Masters, I would like to look back on the music I enjoyed this past year. If it is true that death comes in threes, well, then music should come in fourteens. So, College K, I dedicate these to you, links to fourteen of my favorite songs of '07. ENJOY!

(Sorry I couldn't post the actual videos-Blogger is being dumb.) My favorite songs of 2007 (in no particular order):
Bright Eyes - We are nowhere
(Can we just talk about how I am totally crushing on Connor Oberst!)
Big Girls don't cry - Fergie
The way I am - Ingrid Michaelson
Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake
Marching Bands of Manhattan - Death Cab for Cutie
Ray Lamontagne (duet with Damien Rice) (Ray Lamontagne--MEOW!)
Can I stay - Ray Lamontagne
Jolene - Ray Lamontagne
Trouble - Ray Lamontagne
(Ok, so obviously Ray is my favorite. And gorgeous!)
Against all odds (take a look at me now COVER) - The Postal Service
Closer - Joshua Radin
Last Request - Paolo Nutini
Not ready to make nice - Dixie Chicks
Tiny Dancer - Elton John

Talk about Ironic, I was just the other day mentioning to Mike what a great movie High Fidelity was and how I needed to watch it again. Then yesterday, I was watching an episode of Gilmore Girls where the mentioned it and now I read about it in your blog. I know that has nothing to do with anything and I'm sorry. I plan to listen to your songs soon... except maybe the dixie chicks! What was that song they did about Earl? Drop Dead Earl or something. That was a good song.
Goodbye Earl...ha ha ha...you are funny.
