Misadventures of the Monster Librarian

After reading this article the nice librarian in me says, "Yay! Teens asserting themselves!" The mean librarian in me says: "Waa waa, picky teens! At least you have some books to read. #firstworldproblems When I was your age it was all Sweet Valley High . Just shut the what up and be thankful there are books for you. You're right we won't call them 'YA' books anymore. We'll go w books for moody, hormone-y-not-quite-adults." After this week the mean librarian is winning. WEEKEND!

I love Halloween. It is absolutely my favorite holiday; no pressure to bring a date to the family meal, no feeling alone and unkissable at midnight. Just dressing up and being whatever you want to be, showing off your costume cleverness, or inner slutty nurse, or your mad zombie make-up skills! Since it's Halloween and I haven't already posted something, thought I'd share a few fun Halloween-worthy books...you still have time for these! Zombie signage Zombie signage We recently hosted a teen Zombie Prom at the Library; Prairie Dawn had a great time doing "The Creep," with the kids, enjoying snacks, and other gross-out games. Thought I'd share some photos!

The Teens talked photosynthesis and plants and made their own plant growing mazes-- some of the kids decorated their boxes better than my house. LOL Prairie Dawn is fantastic at thinking up fun and crazy things to do with the kids, especially STEM projects--STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) is the latest focus at libraries and schools alike; keeping kiddos involved and excited about science is always a good thing! Wanted to share two fun things she's done in recent weeks: To keep PD's identity private I had to chop this photo-- Did you know that the potassium benzoate, aspartame, and CO2 gas contained in Diet Coke when combined with the gelatin and gum arabic ingredients of the Mentos, causes a Diet Coke GEYSER!??
