Ray LaMontagne - Let It Be Me

Image
Haven't shared any Ray Lamontagne loveliness in a while--still one of my favorites. Good any day of the week. Oh, that man! MONDAY MORNING MAGIC!

my song

Somehow it came to pass that this became my song when I worked in the Farm's Kitchen; one day in a fit of silliness, my old boss FlavaFlava replaced the word, "mama," with my name and forced everyone to sing along as LOUDLY as possible.  Just now while I was stepping out of the shower my song came on and I had to smile, remembering my time at the Farm, mornings in the Kitchen, a life that seems a million miles away, and all I've done for myself to get where I am today. Happy Friday ya'll. Hey Me, Hey Mama, Ray Lamontagne

take a look at me now

The Postal Service - "Against All Odds" (cover of the Phil Collins song) I am not sure what brought it on, but I have been missing my Dad a lot this week. I can't believe that this October will mark 4 years since my Dad died, since it all still feels so fresh at times. When my Dad died I spent hours pouring over the same CDs. When nothing that my friends said or did made me feel better, I somehow felt comforted by Ray Lamontagne, The Weepies, and this Postal Service cover which I played about a thousand times that first week. This song came on my iPod shuffle today while I was driving and tears came into my eyes--funny how songs can carry such an imprint.

in all parts

Ray Lamongtagne (one of my favorites), was on VH1 Storytellers this week and I was able to catch it today. Aside from his music, I love that Ray Lamontagne is painfully shy, but when he speaks people listen because he is so sincere. My heart swells with happy. Watch here . Today is my first full day off with no plans other than some tentative dinner plans. I was going to garden all day, but waking up to the pouring rain made me smile and know that now I can stay inside and read all day without feeling guilty! Here is some kind of lovely: "In the new garden, in all the parts " In the new garden, in all the parts, In cities now, modern, I wander, Though the second or third result, or still further, primitive yet, Days, places, indifferent--though various, the same, Time, Paradise, the Mannahattan, the prairies, finding me unchanged, Death indifferent--Is it that I lived long since? Was I buried very long ago? For all that, I may now be watching you here, this moment...

homesick-edness, part of life

Have moved out of my obsession with Mumford & Sons and fallen back in with Ray Lamontagne. Every thing that Ray sings sounds really good these days...or maybe it's just because he is playing at my alma mater tomorrow and I should be there. Maybe it's because I am homesick and Ray's music is definitely something I associate back home with...hmm..

Dear Ray Lamontagne, even though I love Mumford & Sons, you will always be my favorite. This song makes me so happy.

I've arrived...Buffalo-Part 1

Image
Yesterday at work I wanted nothing more than to be in Buffalo, hanging out with B1 & B2. After an uneventful day at work, part of it spent working on the church's library (more on that later), I headed out excited and ready, for my mini road trip, at 5pm. Stopped at the gas station to put a little air in my tire and oil in my engine. This is when the trouble happened. Somehow I managed, while taking the oil cap off, to drop the cap down under the engine, and onto this shelf-thingy. I took off my rings (safety first) and forced my arm down as far as I could, waving my fingers wildly to get the oil cap. The coiling around the engine, which I had to slide my arm past were still warm from the drive to the gas station, so with each swipe of my arm (looking like a monkey in a mad comedy to get the banana-I am sure!) I would rub my arm against hot coils, eventually burning the top layer of skin off. So, now I am burned, and frustrated to the point of tears. Nothing is working: not my ...
