at peace with the world...trying

This week at work I had my weekly story-times with my babies group and my toddler group. It was fun. I feel like each week is about trying to see what works and that's good. This week I learned that the kids are enthralled when I use props during my nursery rhymes. I loved making the lamb sing "Mary had a little lamb," to the kids. I can hypnotise them with the furry little puppet...and take over the world...wha? I blacked out, what did I say. I also discovered this week that one of the kids in one of my story-times has the same name as a character from Harry Potter. Not a major player, but present enough in the series. Hint: think #4.

Also, did my first batch of DVD ordering, since I am in charge of the Children's Department Audiovisual collection. I have this huge budget so I thought I should spend some of it, especially as there are some good kids DVDs coming out soon. I swear to God, I spent $500 on DVD's! "Holy Cats!" you say, well, some of those were the expensive education sets, it's not like I spent all that money on Disney DVDs. And it's not like I will be spending that amount of money every month. I have to say it is amazing that I get paid to do things like read reviews and pick out movies, and can we just say that Disney is the devil, with their Ratatouille and Enchanted; of course I am going to buy their damn movies! All of this purchasing resulted in a good lesson: spending someone elses' money creates a sense of euphoria and is so REFRESHING!!

When I spend someone elses' money I get the feeling that I am skiing the Swiss Alps!"

Also, heard from a library that I had an interview at almost two months ago, and while they filled the Reference position that I wanted, they offerered me a substitute position. I think I am going to take it, but seriously, YARGH! I just want ONE full time job, not 4 part time jobs. My calendar is so crazy for March. I have three Tuesdays in a row where I work 12 hour days starting at my church job then going to one library for a short shift and then another short shift at the other library. Think happy thoughts--that's what I tell myself because there are only so many times a week that I can make time to crawl under my desk and drink a bottle of Jack, while rocking back and forth. Make that a regular habit and people will really start to talk.

So, I am off, about to start my weekend and looking forward to some time away from the computer and maybe even fresh air. Happy weekend ya'll.

Oh my God, you're too hilarious. I was sitting here laughing as I read your blog because it's all so ... you:

Ditto! I feel like I'm sitting in the same room with you when I read this and it makes me laugh. Also, I just saw Juno this past week and LOVED it. Especially the children's librarian comment. I thought of you when I saw that! Who knows how many guys have been secretly drooling over you... :)

And Juno's music, wasn't it great? Good in a sort of stick-in-your-head kind of way, not in a Garden State this-is-the-soundtrack-of-my-life kind of way.

I've only seen Black Cauldron once, on video, with a good college friend who promptly fell asleep and left me to suffer through on my own. That 70's synthetic music was so bad...so bad... I crunched up in the couch and gritted my teeth for most of it. But the Horned King, that was a pretty cool character design, so maybe the next time I watch it will be with the sound off.

If your kiddies appreciate the props, why not smuggle that bottle of Jacks into the lamb? You know, you could give the lamb little "kisses" every now and then... Everyone loves a sloshed librarian!
Thanks Mummy! I live to please. :)

CS, I forgot about that line and reading your comment made me laugh.

KT, I actually laughed really loud outloud at work when I read "Smuggle that bottle of Jack into the lamb, you know, you could give the lamb little 'kisses' every now and then..."

You are so funny KT! ha ha ha...I wish I would have thought of that when I was writing the blog!
