F*&%ING REINDEER

You guys, I think I just booked reindeer for our Library's Santa Visit!! This has been one of those weird things I've wanted to do since I've been here, but honestly always forgot about as we were scheduling the craziness of December, i.e. Santa's visit and our Gingerbread House program (which brings in over 70 people--which is A LOT for us!) And there I was, at a library breakfast meeting, when someone said they'd used this farm before... So, I am waiting to hear back from the reindeer owner. He promised an email or call tomorrow. So, fingers crossed...it's all I want for Thanksgiving. Well, that and an engagement ring. You guys ChicagoBoy is having an engagement ring designed as we speak. What the what!?!!!??!?!

Open archway of a cold night

Santa's visit was a blast with 84 people stopping by last night. There's something about the sweet, trust that children have for the magic of Santa and Christmas that is always one of my favorite things to witness. It's not about the presents, or being good to attain them, it's that the magic is so tangible to children. As I seek out my own holiday magic, I keep re-reading this beautiful prayer that I began my day with: "Advent" Amidst ten thousand losses and swirling joys At this very instant On this sacred Earth I wait. Come to us, Beauty, Wisdom, Goodness, Peace, Solace, Grace, Counsel, Love. Through the open archway this cold night Air, rich as gold, flows. Fine snow glistens on our faces. Each flake, Every exquisite crystal blossom Is a covenant of your love Told a thousand thousand times. Amen -- Patricia Van Ness

ho ho Holy cats!

We had our visit from Santa last night and it was a hit! We had 80 people show up (kids and adults)--that might not seem like a lot, but it's good for our little town!--lots of happy kiddos, only three crying babies, and adorable pictures galore on our Facebook page. We've made it into the local paper and online...we're pretty famous around here. :) I can't believe Christmas is only two weeks away! Some books to share with your little ones as we prepare for the Christmas: How the Grinch Stole Christmas , Dr. Seuss I'll be Home For Christmas (Toot & Puddle) , Holly Hobbie Mistletoe Madness , Miriam Hees N is for Navidad , Susan Middleton Elya The Nutcracker, Renee Graef The Polar Express , Chris Van Allsburg Twas the Night Before Christmas , Clement Moore Yoon and the Christmas Mitten, Helen Recorvits
