grateful and just plain full

Hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving! Mummy Dearest, Big Fish, and Little Fish made it safe and sound, and we shared a delicious meal and time at the playground, and a walk around town. Thought I would share my favorite Thanksgiving quotes and some photos of our dinner: I celebrated Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I invited everyone in my neighborhood to my house, we had an enormous feast, and then I killed them and took their land. --Jon Stewart Thanksgiving is a magical time of year when families across the country join together to raise America's obesity statistics. Personally, I love Thanksgiving traditions: watching football, making pumpkin pie, and saying the magic phrase that sends your aunt storming out of the dining room to sit in her car. --Stephen Colbert   I don't do cranberry sauce, it came from a can... Homemade mashed taters with garlic butter, baked ham. Sourdough and ham. Homemade stuffing--so good, so full of butter! ...

rock lobster

Reflections on our Jamaican vacation: I am lobster red My brother A3 got married without a hitch (Ocean) crabs are working together to scare the crap out of me--almost stepped on 2, both times at night, which made the experience even scarier  Knocking fists with the hotel staff, while simultaneously saying, "Respect!" is encouraged Playing Bob Marley music all the time isn't cliche (said with heavy sarcasm) Being asked if you, "like to party," means, "You want to buy some weed from me?" Everyone, from the bell hops to the rasta dudes on the beach, will ask you above question I am getting that vacation-ed out restlessness; it has been absolutely gorgeous here, but I am ready to trade the sandy shores and clear waters of Negril for the Farm.  "You have to remember one thing about the will of the people: it wasn't that long ago that we were swept away by the Macarena."  -- Jon Stewart

processing

Image
Since my computer is now fixed I have no reason to not be posting, but I think, well, I know I'm processing a lot lately. Processing what 30 means. Processing the rally. Processing work. Processing fall. Processing life. Churning churning--but in a good way. Until I come up with words for the mental swirling, I will post some pics which I wasn't able to share sans computer. First, since the Rally is still fresh in my mind, I will share some pics from the Rally to Restore Sanity/Fear. The Rally--which actually happened on my 30th b-day--was amazing. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert inspire me, not just because I like that they are informed and funny and clever and witty; all that stuff too, but I was really inspired that they called (and continue!) to call us to challenge what we see/hear/know to be true. Thanks guys for challenging me and thanks for the great rally (and photo opps!)    I guess I should mention that I took these photos, but since I posted them on Facebook, t...

nothing useful here

So, I return. After two frustrating trips to Best Buy for a new hard drive I did what I should have done in the first place, and ordered the damn thing online. With help from my friends--N, who put in my new hard drive; roomie RugbyGirl, who helped me install a Linnux operating system; and TSO, who patiently helped show me where the internet connect/disconnect button is on this new operating system--I now have my computer up and running again. My silence in the blog world was mostly due to the fact that it is bloody ridiculous trying to post a blog from an iTouch. So much has happened since last I wrote. But what? Errmmm...hmm...not really sure what, now that I think of it. Well, I guess, in a nutshell:  Farm food has changed. Mostly gone are the summer crops. Our fresh veggies coming from our garden include: kale (curly and dino), chard (rainbow, Swiss), leeks, Brussels sprouts (Thank God! I love Brussels sprouts!) cabbage (purple and green), fall squash (delicata, pink banan...

thoughts on Thanksgiving

I am at the Farm! Oh, supreme joy! I can't post much as I am about to go to the weekly Community Meeting, but did want to post a wish of Happy Thanksgiving to all! I try and focus on the being thankful part...not the "we traded the Native Americans, in what we called the Louisiana Purchase, with some shiny objects and then pushed them off their other lands" aspect. Or the "take these pox infested blankets...it's cold out!" aspect of our history!  That said,  "I celebrated Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I invited everyone in my neighborhood to my house, we had an enormous feast, and then I killed them and took their land."  ~ Jon Stewart   HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
