did I make it weird?

Image
Just over halfway through our last week of Summer Reading! We can do it...maybe making it a little weird along the way! And Happy Birthday to bestie L's Lauren; our little girl isn't so little anymore. She turned the big 12 this year! Lauren and I will be celebrating in style in August when I go home--just Lauren and I doing dinner and a movie. Love that not-so-little-anymore Peanut!

curious attractions

Somehow one day while talking with friends the topic of conversation switched and we started talking about those awkward crushes of our younger days. Most of us couldn't really remember why we were attracted to some of our crushes, but it made for a funny and embarrassing conversation. So, on this lovely Friday I ask you to think back to your childhood, push the cobwebs out of your head, and reminisce about your first, truly awkward crushes?   Bert from Disney's Mary Poppins Why was I attracted to him?: He was a Chimney sweep and Kite salesman, could make sidewalk chalk drawings come to life, danced on rooftops, danced with penguins, looked good in a pin-strip suit, Cockney accent. Davy Jones, Monkees Why was I attracted to him?: I loved the show the Monkees (no one told me it was in serious reruns by the time I saw it), his suave shirts, that shaggy mop, he made a cameo on one of my favorite TV shows (the Brady Bunch). Disney's Davy Jones Why was I attracted to him?: ...

I was supposed to have a Pre-school storytime last Friday, but wouldn't you know it, they cancelled a half an hour before our storytime. I was ok with that. It was a slow Friday and it felt nice to just sit at the desk and chat with the othe librarian, catch up on some future storytime planning, and catch up on some library journal reading. Thought I would share my Pre-school storytime on TRANSPORTATION 1. Welcome and Introduce myself and theme 2. Music/Movement: “Shake my sillies out,” #13 Raffi’s More Singable Songs 3. Movement: “I'm A Little Airplane ,” (tune "I'm a Little Teapot") I'm a little airplane, ( children raise arms at sides to shoulder height. ) I can fly! ( tilt back and forth like a plane coming in for landing) I look low (look around the ground) And I look high. (look around the sky) When I get all revved up. ( Make engine noises) Watch me fly, ( Children raise arms to shoulder height .) Lifting off Into the sky! (Point u...

So much to write about, but it is too damn hot, so until I cool off--at least enough to be able to sit here for longer than five minutes--I will repost this old post of mine, which I stumbled upon this morning. It makes me laugh. I hope it makes others laugh too. 9 Ways to Cheer yourself up: 1. Attack a co-workers car with " Potted Meat ," and popcorn (spelling their name with potted meat on windows is very important to self enjoyment). If you don't know what Potted Meat is, go to a gas station with a questionable reputation and you should be able to find it. THe best description I can ulger: spam meets a blender and cat fish 2. Go into shopping stores and use the electronic cart usually saved for the elderly or overweight...find an older person and race them...odds are you will win. 3. While in the groccery store sing or hum (if you are shy about singing) as loudly as you can, the theme song to the A Team, (if you do not know if, it is also the background music in Napol...

Our Valentines Party at the library (aka the night we celebrate Singletons-Feel-Alone-and-Pathetic Day)

This will be short since I am one break for only 20 minutes more. The library gig--I AM LOVING IT! I love, love, love what I do. I was really panicking at the end of Grad School, thinking that I couldn't believe that I had chosen a career that would put me around people all day, working customer service. But I love it! I smile at children, I am polite to old people, I help people get things, I even smile when people are crochety...who have I turned into!?? This is not the normal Monster. Finishing Grad School and putting behind me the loads of reading and papers and working too many hours with not even sleep has transformed me; this caterpillar has fallen from the cocoon. I am so glad I picked this career field, I love what I do, and I am even thinking that being a Children's Librarian is fun--a thought that I could not stomach when I was still in school. This might just be the honeymoon phase my friend warned, and that may be true, but I am savoring it! Worked the Reference De...
