The Seven Wonders of Today's World

You may or may not be familair with the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, a list that was allegedly compiled by Herodotus , (pictured left) though his writings about it never survived, the idea was instead passed on through reference to the work by other writers.

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World :

The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

The Statue of Zeus at Olympia

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

The Colossus of Rhodes

The Pharos of Alexandria

Apparently, a Swiss company is calling for a modern list to be compiled, which will be unveiled on July 7, 2007. You can vote here...and be a part of history...I guess. It sounds a bit dodgy.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has criticized the effort as unbased in science, and Egypt feels that it is a competition against the Pyramids of Giza which were on the first, original list. You decide.

And yes, I am working on my paper! I wrote a paragraph and then decided I would take a break to write this...sigh.
